UNOFFICIAL Jambo Site - Everyone Welcome!

Robert Hill says:

I am attending Jamboree for the first time and I am wondering if there is anything I need to bring that I may not know about.  I am working at Food Service Headquarters and housed in the Wilcox barracks.  Any suggestions from from the seasoned veterans here?

List of What Staffers Need to Bring for Check-in

Here is what staff members need and should bring proof of just in case ...

1. Registration Status = bring your "Letter of Appointment"

2. Medical Information = bring two copies of your "Medical Record" and the "Jamboree Medical Approved" email

3. Youth Protection = bring proof you completed YPT since August 4, 2008.

4. Balance Due = bring a "2010 NSJ Staff Application Edited" or other email showing you are paid up.

5. Housing & Dining Assignment = bring your "Jamboree Check in Information-Housing and Dining Assigned" email

6. Arrival Date = bring your "Jamboree Travel Dates" email

7. Driver Permit = if you will be driving, bring the "2010 Jamboree Driver Training" Certificate. Besides the "2010 Jamboree Driver Training" Certificate you need your valid drivers license and, if you are going to use your own car, proof of adequate insurance.

Be prepared for the weather. In June the high was 101F and the low was 56F. It rained 5 days and the highest rainfall as .7". 0.35" was typical on days that had rain. In addition 6 days had a trace of rain.

During the period from July 26 to Aug 4 the records are 101F high and 48F low. The average high is 87F and the average low is 65F. But the weather is seldom average. In June, 7 days had highs over 95F and 4 days had lows in the 50's. July is the wettest month of the year on average with over 4" of rain.

It is a good idea to take the optional Staff Training, Weather Hazards Training, and Physical Wellness Training online at the MyScouting portal. They don't take long.
What Else Staffers Need To Bring

The Staff Guide has a good list of what to pack; Click here for a copy of that page.
Here are some additional recommendations on what to bring:

* A foot locker or large WATERPROOF suitcase and an extra lock for your locker. Tents have dirt/grass/mud floors and cots. Wilcox and Longstreet have barracks. The rest have tents. There is a rumor that the barracks have been air conditioned. Let's hope it is true. The tents are air-conditioned if you raise the flaps and turn on the fans but electricity will be very limited.
* We recommend that those of you who are in tents bring waterproof containers for your bedding and use it every day. If it rains during the day when you are not in the tent, your sleeping bag/bedding may get wet because the tents often leak. Remember that the Army has sent most of its best equipment to the war zones so we will be using the items that remain in inventory.
* For those staying in a tent, it is good to bring a sheet of plywood and 2x4's to put under it. I cut the sheet of plywood into 4 2'x4' pieces to fit in my car. Then I bring 5- 4' pieces of 2x4 to put under the ends and the seams and a hammer and nails to fasten it together.

* Another alternative for a bed platform (if you are coming by vehicle) is found here:
*

* You will normally sleep under a sheet, but it can get cold. You may want a blanket or sleeping bag incase it does get cold at night. We also recommend that you get a sleeping bag liner made of wicking material. They are inexpensive and dry very quickly.
* A small day pack with your water, lunch, sun screen, mosquito & tick repellant, sun glasses, and poncho is good.
* At night a flashlight is good for arena shows, going to the latrine if you are billeted in a tent, and bring a small backup light.
* Be ready to work in heat, rain, etc. If you have a camel pack or equivalent, bring it, if not, bring Nalgene type bottles.
* An alarm clock and perhaps a spare. Battery operated with extra batteries.
* Bring a good sized quiet fan like a window fan. Most everyone has one. It usually sits on your footlocker and blows on you at night.
* Bring your own "waber strip" (electric strip) so you can make sure you can get electricity.
* A small piece of carpet is good luxury item to put your feet on when you get our of our cot/bed.
* For toiletries, I like to take a 5-gallon bucket in which I put my toiletries, shower flip-flops, and clean clothes for the next day. Then when I get up I just grab the bucket and go to the showers. I don't have to worry about where to hang my towel or put my dry clothes. I take a washcloth to dry with first before I use the bath towel. That way the bath towel doesn't get as wet and dries much faster. If you bring a plumbers plunger, some soap, and a lid with a hole in it, you have a washing machine. All you need is a clothes line. You can use the bucket with a lid as a nigh stand for your clock, flashlight, and poncho or whatever.
* Jamboree Staff Training is available at: http://olc.scouting.org/courses/tpg/ It is slow to load, so be patient.

Also check out following link so that they can read it thoroughly before coming:

You have each gotten an e-mail about the Jamboree Notification System as outlined below. We encourage you to sign up.

Walk, walk, walk, walk. Get ready.

Robert, Michael gave some excellent info based on the 2010 Jamboree, but 2013 is COMPLETELY different. Check out the official Jamboree site to get the info regarding your question. https://summit.scouting.org/en/Jamboree2013/Pages/default.aspx

There will be no staff foot lockers brought to the 2013 National jamborree. Staff and particpants alike will receive a Jambo13kit that is a duffle bag and 2-Jambo t-shirts. EVERYTHING you bring other than your sleeping bag must fit inside that duffle bag or it cannot be brought to Jamboree.

Before long a gear list will be generated telling you exactly what to bring with you. But it all has to fit in the duffle bag.

I hope this helps.
