Hello, I started in scouts in the 70's, participated with the council troop contingent at the 1981 Jambo, have served as council OA Advisor, Council Executive Board - VP for Programming; grew up at Camp Madron in Buchanan MI with the Madron Indian Dancers and then to Camp Rota Kiwan in Kalamazoo MI. An Eagle Scout with two great boys in scouts, one a Life Scout working on his Eagle Project and the other a First Class Scout. Both attending the Jambo this year with the Southwest MI Council contingent Troop 1223. I was at AP Hill for the first and they maybe there for the last. Lots of great memories, the OAK RIDGE BOYS, GREEN BAR BILL, BERLE IVES, to name a few of the highlights. Still have stuff signed by GB Bill. Hope everyone has a SAFE and wondeful time at this years 100th Anniversary Jamboree.
Howdy! My name is Doug Newsom, and I started Scouts back in 1972 in the Sam Houston Area Council. The years in between have really flown by quickly. There sure are lots of great Scouting times in those years. I am an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor Member. I have been fortunate to have served on 5 National Jambo staffs and 2 World Jambo staffs. I know the 2010 Jambo will be the best event in Scouting history, not only for the United States, but probably for the world!
Good morning! I started with Cub Scouts in 1953 in Ashland, Kentucky. As a youth I continued on with Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. As an adult, I started with Cub Scouts with my son in 1976. Served as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster. Received by Woodbadge beads SE-279, Eagle Patrol, in 1981. Have coordinated Electricity and Electronics Merit Badge booths at the National Scout Jamborees in 1981, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, 2001 and 2005. Will be sponsoring the same booths in 2010. We have over 100 volunteers helping and will be spending over $100K on the booths. We will also be operating amateur radio station K6BSA 24/7 during the Jamboree. We will be posting hundreds of photos, blogging (www.emeritbadges.blogspot.com), tweeting (www.twitter.com/emeritbadges) and on Facebook (IEEE emeritbadges.org Project) during the Jamboree. Check out our website www.emeritbadges.org. We had over 250,000 hits per day during the 2005 Jamboree and are hoping to have over 1,000,000 hits per day in 2010. Professionally I am an Electrical Engineer and active volunteer with IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

Hi, I started in Scouting as a Cub Scout in Niantic, CT around 1970. With my dad in the Coast Guard we moved around a lot and it was difficult to remain active as a Scout. I didn't rediscover Scouting until my oldest of two sons joined as a Tiger Cub fours years ago.

Now we're an all-Scout family: Dad:Cubmaster, Wife (Chris): Webelos Den Leader, Sons (2): Webelos II and Bear cub scouts, daughter: Venturer. I just accepted a District Position as Training Chair and I'll be staffing as ASM-Facilities the Fall Wood Badge course in the Denver Council. I visited the 2010 Jamboree this year, but hope to attend the 2013. I will be attending the 2011 World Jamboree with my daughter in July 2011.
Hi there.

I started scouting as a Cub Scout, and worked my way to Eagle Scout in 1988. I'm currently a Scoutmaster, served as our council contingent's Scoutmaster to the 2010 Jamboree (Troop 1438, Central Region), am an OA brotherhood member, Woodbadge beaded Antelope, and currently a Wood Badge Troop Guide.

Scouting is critical to our current generation of future leaders...

Nice to meet you all.
I am an Eagle Scout, and participated in all phases of Scouting as a youth member for 10 years. I started my tenure as an adult Scouter as a Tiger Cub partner when my son was in first grade back in September 1996. I have served as an Assistant Cubmaster, Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Associate Crew Advisor, Crew Advisor, District Committee Member, Executive Board Member and on the Ida Keifer Eagle Scout Scholarship Committee for the Northeast Region. I camped along the Potomoc River in 2001 and made day trip onto the Jamboree site as a visitor in 2001. I served as the 1st Assistant Scoutmaster for a Troop from the Monmouth Council, NJ in 2005. In 2010 I served on the Jamboree Staff for Bike BMX in Action Center "D". I am looking forward to serving in some capacity for the 2013 Jamboree.
Hi,
I have been in Scouting 45 years and on staff at the National Jamboree since 1989. Any position where you get to interact with the Scouts is a good one. I have had many positions in Scouting including unit leader, commissioner's staff, district committee, council executive, Wood Badge trainer, and Philmont trainer. But the project that was my favorite was when I was asked to create a history book for our council as part of their Centennial of Scouting celebration. I got to meet a lot of great Scouts and Scouters and document their stories.
This jamboree was one of the best. They had entertainment that the Scouts liked rather than the adults. There were far fewer problems than in earlier jamborees. We had less support from outside entities, but we did a better job with what we had. Congratulations to everyone who worked on the 2010 National Jamboree. Job well done!
Howdy y'all. I started in Scouting as a Cub Scout in the 1960's, joined Boy Scouts at age 11, was called out to Order of the Arrow in 1973, and became the first Eagle Scout in the history of Troop 222, Oxford, IA, on September 8, 1975. Like a lot of people, I became inactive after High School until my first son was old enough to start Cub Scouts. Once I got re-involved, I was the Den Leader for both of my boys and have held various district and council positions since 1994. Both of my boys are Eagle Scouts and are employed as Assistant Managers at Hy-Vee, a local grocery store chain. My current positions are: Advancement Chair for Troop 250, Vice-Chair of District Operations, and Secretary Adviser for Cho-Gun-Mun-A-Nock Lodge #467, Order of the Arrow. I am a Vigil Honor member of our lodge. My Vigil Name is Tangetto Machque Achkegetum, translated as Small One Bear Teacher. With another Asst Scoutmaster, I brought Troop 204 to visit National Jamboree in 2001. I served on SubCamp 10 Dining Hall Staff in 2005. I served on SubCamp 10 Activities/Mobilization Staff in 2010. I am looking forward to serving on staff at National Jamboree in 2013.
I attended the 1973 Jamboree as a scout and was able to attend 2010 as 2ASM.

I did not realize how unusual the 1973 Jamboree was until I visited the OA exhibit of scouting history. More than just a fascinating collection of scouting history, the staff there really knew their stuff. In answering a question that I had about a 1973 Jamboree patch the staffer noted that the '73 Jamboree was the only Jamboree at which "organic" troops attended. I had thought that the development of Council-organized troops was a development after the '73 Jamboree (much like moving to A P Hill on a semi-permanent basis).
I was the Rappelling Director for ACTion D at the past 3 Jamborees and have been asked back for 2013 by National. I live just north of Morgantown WV in SW Pa and am only 3 hours form the NEw Site. I retired after 35 years of being a high school band director 5 years ago and enjoy my retirement. I serve as the NR area 4 Venturing Chairman. Eagle,Vigil, Silver Beaver, Venturing Leadership Award. Been in scouts since 1957?
I served as the Food Group Health and Safety Czar for the 2010 National Jamboree this past year...It was great to serve on National Staff again,(I last served on Jamboree Staff in 1985 as a Council Guest Reception).  I look forward to serving again on the staff in 2013...I have been retired as a professional Scouter since 2003 after 30 years of professional service... It's great to be able to work at National Jamboree and catch up with old friends and meet new ones too.
Hello everyone!  I began my scouting career in the early 1950's as a cub scout in Pack 190, So. St. Paul MN, Troop 279 and then 190 and awarded the Vigil Honor in 1964. I served as a Scout at Tomahawk Scout Camp, attended the 1960 National Jamboree as a member of Troop 53 and Served as the Troop Historian. Then after a stint in the US Army and beginning to raise a family I got back into scouting at first as a member of a district and at the time Pack 69 which was recognized in the Indianhead Council as the oldest Pack and given the #1. In 1978 I got involved with Troop 69 which we proved to the National Council that we were indeed Chartered in the fall of 1910 and then they gave us Troop 1 as the oldest Catholic Scout Troop in the US where I served as the Scoutmaster until 1989. I then took a job in northern MN. I became the Scoutmaster of Troop 62 in the Headwaters Council which was merged with the Duluth Superior Council and went on to be awareded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. I have held just about all the jobs one can at the unit level and the district level at one time or another. I have been a member of the Blue Ridge Mountain Coucil, Piedmont District Commitee, and currently serve on the North Star District Training Team back here in the Northern Star Council where I am also once again working with Troop 1 and another Troop 626 Chartered in the Northwest District to St. Odilia Catholic Church. I am looking forward to the 2013 National Jamboree and working with the scouters and Scouts doing Wood Carving Merit Badge.  I have in addition to attending the 1960 Jamboree, attended the 1985 Jamboree, 2001, 2005, and 2010. I have been at the 50th, 75th and now the 100th anniversary Jamborees!
